| Government Has Four Real Programs To Boost Tourism Sector Growth The Minister of Culture & Tourism, Jero Wacik stated that government has four real programs to boost tourism sector, which are expected to gain foreign exchange of USD 5.3 million from 6 million foreign visits. The real programs will also encourage the growth domestic tourist to the archipelago, which last year reached 216,6 million with Rp.78,6 trillion expenditure. “Government has 4 real programs in tourism sector that are on going and will be realized to boost the growth of domestic tourist through out the archipelago”, Jero Wacik said in his opening remark at Gebyar Wisata Nusantara exhibition, Semanggi Expo Jakarta, Thursday (3/6). The first real program is, accelerating the tourism promotion, both to outside and inside country. Tourism promotion to outside country will be in a form of active participation in the worldwide tourism market to attract as many foreign tourists as possible, and for this year, the government has targeted the number of foreign tourist visit will reach 6 million. The inside country promotion has already done by the Gebyar Wisata Nusantara event (this year event is the fifth time). The second real program, according to Jero Wacik is, smoothen the the tourist arrival by adding the number of countries who receive the Visa on Arrival (VoA), from 52 become 63 countries. This policy will ease the tourist to access Indonesia from anywhere, and will also encourage the tourist visits from around the world. Jero Wacik further stated the third real program to accelerate the tourism sector is, the availability of easily accessed transportation, especially air transportation. Recently, the Vice President Jusuf Kalla, has officially launched the new airplane Boeing 737-900 ER owned by PT. Lion Air. “ The government keeps on encouraging and supporting our airlines to operate the new airplane, so as we could provide the tourists with safety and comfort”, he said. Jero Wacik further announced that some world class airlines like; Emirate and Qatar Airways, have recently added their flight route from Doha to Bali. “Even the Emirate stated that they are ready to bring 1 to 2 million tourists per each year to Lombok, started by the time the new international airport operates in 2009.” According to the Minister, the fourth real program is, developing the tourism destination in each region. ”For this purpose, the province, the city, the regency government and all the stakeholders in each region are expected to give great contribution. “ I urge the region government to actively promote the tourism destinations in each region, so that people know them well. He then said that he was sure the investment on promotion will regain income back in PAD (Region Real Income). The event “Gebyar Pariwisata Nusantara” held by PT.
