Prepare For Take-off : The New Airport Is On Its Way
The plan for the current domestic airport near Mataram is to convert it into a retail shopping center, though, these plans have yet to be concretized. Swara Bumi Gora and its government sources report that the total land mass for the new airport is 2,700 metres in length and 13,000 metres wide. Both Swara Bumi Gora and Mr. Suprayatno estimate the projected cost for the airport to be approximately US$ 62.5 million (Rp 625 miliar). In addition to the actual building of the airport, the project will also include improvements to local infrastructure, such as water and fuel sources, roads, electricity and more. (Note: The auxiliary developments are not included in the airport's initial cost projection.)An official at the Praya Bupati office, Mr. H.L. Mustiadi gave an example of one such infrastructure development project. According to Mr. Mustadi, the government has plans to establish a road from the new airport to Sekotong ( South Lombok ).
Since the early '90s, there has been some serious talk, hope and planning for an international airport to be built on Lombok. In fact, this modern transport hub has been on the mind of almost everyone – from the government and local residents, to businesses, investors, expats and tourists. This year, the dream is on the fast track to reality. The latest thrust really began last fall. On October 31, Republic of Indonesia President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited the new airports build site in Tanak Awu (Central Lombok) and lent his support for the project. “Insya Allah (God willing)...we will start to build immediately,” he was quoted as saying.advertisements, or investment in the project, should submit proposals to PT. Angkasa Pura I in Jakarta .
This direct road will reduce the amount of time it takes visitors to reach resorts there to an hour or less.“The development of this airport is crucial to help solve the problem of unemployment on Lombok , as the project will provide many opportunities for work and business for local people,” Mr. Suprayatno said."It will also especially support the development of tourism, as well as other sectors, such as industry and commerce. The Lombok Times will continue to follow this exciting project and update you as progress is made.Until then, get ready to watch Lombok take off !
